Miss Universe Russia 2020 Alina Sanko says 'please forgive me'

Russia's representative to the upcoming 69th Miss Universe pageant, Alina Sanko, has recently been the subject of a controversial video that went viral.

In the video, the 22-year-old was heard laughing while another person was leaving harsh comments to her fellow contestants.

Fans were appalled for such unacceptable behavior considering the Miss Universe pageant is about women supporting and uplifting other women.

Alina has posted a public apology on her official social media page. She explained: "I am endlessly sorry that I couldn’t stop the man from saying rude words about the contestants. It is painful. Now I’m apologizing to everyone affected. I am sorry that I didn’t say anything to protect the girls on time."

The Russian beauty also considered the current situation as a harsh lesson. "I’ve learned one significant thing, now I’m sure being able to use your voice is necessary for every woman," she said.

"I hope my example can prevent every woman from making such a mistake. Please, forgive me."

Nadia Mejia-Webb, representing Comunidad USA, was crowned Miss Universe Ecuador 2025 in a national competition held on Saturday, July 26 at Palacio de Cristal in Guayaquil. The 29-year-old model and singer will now prepare to represent Ecuador at Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand this November. Former Miss Earth Paraguay Gretha Matiauda has recently been appointed as her country's official representative in the Miss Universe 2026 pageant. The 24-year-old beauty from Asunci贸n is an economist, international model and entrepreneur. She succeeds last year's titleholder Yanina G贸mez who made the Top 30 at Miss Universe 2025. The 25-year-old fashion model and pet food bakery owner also bagged the Best in Swimsuit award. She succeeds Rosemary Ling and will now prepare to represent Hong Kong at Miss International 2023 in Japan this October. Filipino-American Bea Millan-Windorski has recently been appointed as the official representative for the province of La Union at Miss Universe Philippines 2026.
