69th Miss Universe competition kicks off with registration and fittings

It's officially Miss Universe season as over 70 women from around the world have arrived at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, USA, to compete in the 69th edition of the prestigious pageant.

The contestants kicked off the competition with registration and fittings for their official shoes, dress, and swimsuit from sponsors. Their schedules also include photo shooting, touring, filming, rehearsing, and preparing for the preliminary and final show.

Standouts during their arrivals and initial activities were the Philippines, Thailand, Colombia, Nepal, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Canada, Romania, Denmark, South Africa, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Venezuela.

The 69th Miss Universe pageant will air live on FYI and local channels across the world on Sunday, May 16 at 8 p.m. ET. Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Samuel Nwajagu of Nigeria was proclaimed the grand winner of the Mister International 2024 pageant on Saturday, December 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. Aside from the international title, the 23-year-old model also bagged the Best in Swimsuit award. He succeeds last year's winner from Thailand, Kim Goodburn. Nguyen Man Lan of Vietnam and Glenn Victor Sutanto were announced as the first and second runners-up, respectively. Plus-sized beauty Sara Milliken was crowned the National American Miss Alabama 2024 during the state final held on May 27 at the Renaissance Marriot in Montgomery. The 23-year-old model and mental health advocate from Atmore, Alabama is now expected to represent her home state at the National American Miss 2024 competition later this year. "This is a dream that has been 8 years in the making for me," said the new National American Miss Alabama who first joined the state pageant when she was 15 years old. The semifinal round of Miss Polski 2024 (Miss Poland 2024) took place on Friday, April 26 at Hotel Kolumna Park in Przygoń. From 59 semifinalists, only 32 beauties (two from each region) have been selected to move on to the final competition to be held this July. María Cepero Jiménez of Puerto Rico was crowned Miss Intercontinental 2024 on Friday, December 6 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The 26-year-old law student beat over 50 other contestants to win her country's 5th Miss Intercontinental title. She succeeds last year's winner Chatnalin Chotjirawarachat from Thailand.
