Romania to skip the Miss Universe 2022 pageant due to 'new events that we could not anticipate'


The Miss Universe Romania organization has released an official statement that they will not send a representative to the 71st Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2022) pageant.

"After much deliberation, we regret to inform you that we had to put a pause on this year's edition of Miss Universe Romania," the organization wrote.

"We were looking forward to the boot camp week, the grand final, and choosing our 3rd consecutive queen, after Miss Bianca and Miss Carmina. Unfortunately, due to new events that we could not anticipate, our plans have changed," the organization further explains.

Miss Universe Romania plans to return to the Miss Universe competition next year.

The reigning titleholder is a history student and model from Cluj-Napoca, Carmina Elena Olimpia Coftas. She competed during the 70th Miss Universe pageant in Eilat, Israel last December.

After weeks of pre-pageant activities and events, the 24th edition of the annual Miss Earth pageant will culminate tonight at Okada Manila in the Philippines. Drita Ziri from Albania and her elemental court are set to crown their successors among 76 contestants from around the planet at tonight's final competition. The show will be hosted by Filipino actor and host Robi Domingo and will stream live on local channels and Miss Earth's official social media and streaming platforms. Australia's Jessica Lane crowned Miss Earth 2024

Jessica Lane from Australia was crowned Miss Earth 2024 in a grand coronation show on Saturday, November 9 at Okada Manila in the Philippines. The 21-year-old activist and journalist beat over 70 other contestants to win the international pageant. She made history as the first Australian woman to become Miss Earth. Hrafnhildur Haraldsdóttir of Iceland, Bea Millan-Windorski of the USA, and Niva Antezana of Peru were crowned Miss Earth Air, Miss Earth Water, and Miss Earth Fire 2024, respectively. Panama's Italy Mora disqualified from Miss Universe 2024

A few days after arriving in Mexico for Miss Universe 2024, Miss Universe Panama 2024 Italy Mora has been officially removed from the competition. No reasons were disclosed for her disqualification because according to the Miss Universe Organization: "Confidentiality is a fundamental pillar of any disciplinary process. By protecting sensitive and personal information, we not only ensure fairness and equity in our decisions, but also the dignity of all involved." MUO also said in an official statement released on Friday, November 1 that their decision to disqualify Miss Universe Panama has been taken "after a thorough evaluation by our disciplinary commission."
