71st Miss Universe: Major standouts from pre-pageant events and activities


The 71st Miss Universe contestants have been very busy with their pre-pageant events and activities ahead of the preliminary, national costume, and final competitions.

Brennan's, a famous New Orleans restaurant located in the heart of the French Quarter, hosted the contestants a special dinner where they enjoyed delicious and authentic Creole cuisine.

In addition to touring, filming, and rehearsing for the big show, a welcome press conference was held for the 84 contestants on Monday, January 9 at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.

Present were Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Jerry Reyes (President of the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority Board of Commissioners) Kelly Schulz (Senior Vice President, Communications and Public Relations at New Orleans & Company), Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart, and outgoing queen Harnaaz Sandhu.


The contestants were also taken to a welcome reception at Gallier Hall, a historic building on St. Charles Avenue. They all dolled up for the special event filled with live music, dance, glam, and more inspirational speeches.

JKN Global Group's Anne Jakrajutatip, the new owner of MUO also attended the party and gave a powerful message: "It's time for women to rise. It's time for women to manage the world, in fact, the universe. You must have a purpose in life, you must know why you were born, and you must use your personality to serve the purpose of your soul."

Major standouts from their pre-pageant events and activities based on their overall presence and "it factor" include the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Aruba, Philippines, USA, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Thailand, Portugal, Italy, South Africa, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Miss Earth 2023: Top 12 for Best National Costume announced

The Top 12 for best national costume at Miss Earth 2023 has been officially announced. Three costumes that received the most votes from each continental group make up the finalists. Online voting was conducted on Miss Earth's official Facebook page following the national costume competition held on Saturday, December 16 at the Van Thanh Flower Village in Dalat, Vietnam. Following the Miss Earth 2023 blue carpet evening gown competition and "Xin Chao" welcome ceremony held last Sunday at the Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City, online voting was conducted on social media for "Best Appearance" from December 4 to December 8. Jan Carrasco was proclaimed Mister Supranational Dominican Republic 2023 on Saturday, April 22 at the Auditorio Patrick N. Hughson in Santo Domingo. The 29-year-old actor and photographer representing Santiago bested 14 other competitors to win the national competition. He succeeded Lewis Echavarria and will now prepare for Mister Supranational 2023 to be held in Poland this July. Miss Earth Thailand 2023 is Cora Bliault

Cora Bliault was crowned Miss Earth Thailand 2023 in a glittering competition held on Friday, September 1 at the Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Bangkok. Miss South Africa unveils new crown 'Mowana' inspired by tree of life

Led by CEO Stephanie Weil, the Miss South Africa organization officially unveiled a new crown called "Mowana" at a ceremony held on Monday, August 7 in Johannesburg. Eliise Randmaa was crowned Miss World Estonia 2023 in a glittering national competition held on Friday, August 25 at Kadriorg Castle in Tallinn. The 23-year-old software developer and cheerleader from Kirna, Järva County bested nine other contestants to win the national title. She is now expected to represent Estonia at Miss World 2024.
