Latvia's Kate Alexeeva withdraws from 71st Miss Universe


Miss Universe Latvia 2022 Kate Alexeeva will unfortunately not be able to compete at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on January 14.

The 28-year-old Latvian model, businesswoman, and influencer took to social media to share she tested positive for COVID-19 shortly before the New Year and is currently still recovering from complications.

"I am forced to revoke my participation in Miss Universe this year. I still can’t believe I’m saying this. This decision is made because my health and the health of other contestants and their families is a priority," she said.

Miss Universe Latvia national director Inga Raduga commented: "I know how upset you are, but it's life. I hope so much that you will shine and all will see your beauty on Miss Universe 2023."

Kate was named Miss Universe Latvia last October and was supposed to be the first Latvian representative at the Miss Universe competition since 2006.

Miss Global 2025 is Nguyen Dinh Nhu Van of Vietnam

Nguyen Dinh Nhu Van from Vietnam was crowned Miss Global 2025 on Sunday, March 9 at the MCC Hall, The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The 33-year-old model hailing from Lam Dong province bested over 60 other contestants to become the first Vietnamese representative to win the international beauty title. Miss Southern Plains, Diane Westhoven was crowned Miss Alabama USA 2024 during the state final on Saturday, June 1 at Auburn University's Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center. The 21-year-old student from Birmingham will now prepare to represent Alabama at Miss USA 2024 this summer in Hollywood, California. Former Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Miss France 2023 first runner-up Agathe Cauet was announced on Monday, March 10 as Miss World France 2025. The 26-year-old former nurse was first runner-up to Miss France 2023 Indira Ampiot of Guadeloupe at the national pageant in Châteauroux. After 57 years, Cuba is set to return to the Miss Universe pageant with the newly crowned Miss Universe Cuba 2024 Marianela Ancheta. The 31-year-old entrepreneur representing the Central Region beat 23 other contestants to win the national competition held on Thursday, September 26 in Miami, Florida.
