Miss Maryland USA 2023 is Savena Mushinge


Miss Germantown, Savena Mushinge, was crowned Miss Maryland USA 2023 on Sunday, April 2 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Rockville.

Rounding out the Top 5 finalists were Kennedy Taylor, Lydia Frentsos, Danielle Shook, and Taylor Wright. They were named the first, second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively.

The new Miss Maryland USA is a 26-year-old Zambian-American model and a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in anthropology. She is currently working as a transaction manager at the JLL DC office in Washington, D.C.

No stranger to pageantry, Savena was named last year's Miss Supranational Zambia and went on to represent Zambia at Miss Supranational 2022 pageant in Poland. She will now proceed to Miss USA 2023 in Reno, Nevada.

For Miss Teen USA 2023, Maryland will be represented by newly crowned Miss Maryland Teen USA 2023 Madelyn Posey. Her runners-up include Sanjana Yendluri, Chelsea Chambers, Rhoda Simms, and Kate Edwards.

Last year's Miss Maryland USA Caleigh Shade and Miss Maryland Teen USA Soniya Krishan crowned their respective successors at the end of the event.

The Mister International pageant, a celebrated event in the world of male beauty, was established in 2006 in Singapore by Alan Sim, its original president and founder. After the unfortunate passing of Sim, the pageant relocated its headquarters to Bangkok, Thailand, where it is now guided by the current president, Pradit Pradinunt. Plus-sized beauty Sara Milliken was crowned the National American Miss Alabama 2024 during the state final held on May 27 at the Renaissance Marriot in Montgomery. The 23-year-old model and mental health advocate from Atmore, Alabama is now expected to represent her home state at the National American Miss 2024 competition later this year. Samuel Nwajagu of Nigeria was proclaimed the grand winner of the Mister International 2024 pageant on Saturday, December 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. Aside from the international title, the 23-year-old model also bagged the Best in Swimsuit award. He succeeds last year's winner from Thailand, Kim Goodburn. Angélique Angarni-Filopon from Martinique beat 29 other contestants to win Miss France 2025 on Saturday, December 14 at the Futuroscope Arena in Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The 34-year-old flight attendant became the oldest winner of the prestigious national pageant. She also made history as the first woman from Martinique to become Miss France. Miss Universe Ukraine 2022 Viktoria Apanasenko finally revealed her symbolic national costume for the 71st Miss Universe pageant. The "Warrior of Light" costume symbolizes her nation's fight against the darkness, like an archangel Michael with a sword protecting Ukraine. It was completed in four months of extreme conditions, to the sound of sirens, without electricity, and by candlelight.
