Will Philippines' Gwendolyne Fourniol win Miss World a decade after Megan Young claimed the crown?
Megan's monumental triumph marked the very first time that the country had claimed the prestigious title. Her historic feat not only showcased her undeniable beauty and grace but also highlighted the immense charisma that Filipinas consistently bring to the Miss World competition.
In the years that followed, the Philippines continued to make its mark on the Miss World stage, with five exceptional representatives making their presence felt. Among them, Catriona Gray's remarkable achievement in 2016 stands out as she secured a Top 5 finish.
This year, a 23-year-old Filipino-French beauty from Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, Gwendolyne Fourniol, will be fighting to bag the second crown in the vibrant city of Mumbai, India, come December.
Her advocacy "Bridge the Gap, Build the Future," pushes for fair access to high-quality education for the young minds of our society. She forged a partnership with ERDA Foundation and embarked on a mission to not only raise funds but also gather essential resources, all with the ultimate goal of transforming the ERDA Learning Hub from a mere vision into a tangible reality.
"One of the biggest problems we are facing in the world right now is the lack of fair access to quality education and part of this problem is the large-scale shortfall in infrastructure, teachers, and other learning tools," shared Miss World Philippines 2022.
"By building the Learning Hub, and providing opportunities for growth to the community around it, I hope to do my humble part in bridging the gap in education in my own country so that I may be able to help less privileged children build their own bigger and brighter futures in the same way that ERDA did for my mother."
Gwendolyne won the Miss World Philippines title last year at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and earned the opportunity to represent her country in the upcoming 71st Miss World pageant.
With another stunner who embodies the "Beauty With A Purpose" slogan of Miss World, is the Philippines up for another Miss World crown?
