Miss Universe Egypt 2023 is Mohra Tantawy
Mohra Tantawy edged out four other competitors to be proclaimed Miss Universe Eygpt 2023 on Monday, September 25.
The 21-year-old business marketing graduate and model from Cairo will now prepare to represent Egypt at Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador this November.
Aya Abdelrazik was named first runner-up while Amera Othman, Doaa Meera Tarek, and Salma Eltoukhy were the rest of the finalists.
This year's competition was the first edition of the national pageant since the Dubai-based company Yugen Group held the Miss Universe license for Egypt. The final show was streamed on the official Miss Universe YouTube channel.
No stranger to pageantry, the new Miss Universe Egypt is a former Miss Intercontinental Egypt who participated in Miss Intercontinental 2022 last October in Sharm El Sheikh.
In her answer to the final question "What do you think is the biggest reason why poverty still exists in many countries in the world?" she said, "I believe, the main reason why poverty still exists in many countries is the lack of resources such as education or the lack of economic opportunities."
"If I were to be Miss Universe Egypt, I would work with both local and international organizations to create a micro-funding environment and to empower these people who are stuck in the unfortunate circumstance of poverty and just empower them to break out of the cycle."
Egypt last joined Miss Universe in 2019 with Diana Hamed. The country has yet to win or place in the competition since its debut in 1987.
