Miss Universe Organization addresses claims made in controversial documentary
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has officially released a response to a recent controversial documentary that aired on Hulu.
According to MUO, IMPACT x Nightline's documentary "Cracks in the Crown: Miss Universe in Crisis" is "disseminating false claims with the intention of smearing" the organization.
"It falsely targets not only our organization but also our executives and members, who are individuals of recognized honorability, living the values of our organization daily."
Here's MUO's entire statement:
"The Miss Universe Organization, a celebrated institution showcasing the empowerment of women globally for over 73 years, stands resolute in addressing recent unfounded allegations presented in a newly released documentary. The content alleged contains misleading information intended to undermine the integrity and values for which our organization is known and esteemed.
Throughout decades, the Miss Universe Organization has exemplified virtues of inclusivity, empowerment, and global unity. Our commitment to these principles has remained unwavering, offering women from diverse cultures a platform to achieve personal and professional growth.
The documentary in question irresponsibly challenges the beliefs we hold dear, disseminating false claims with the intention of smearing the Miss Universe Organization. It falsely targets not only our organization but also our executives and members, who are individuals of recognized honorability, living the values of our organization daily. These individuals have consistently demonstrated impeccable character and a steadfast commitment to our core values.
We emphasize that these assertions lack veracity and transparency. Throughout our long history, we have maintained a highly distinguished reputation, capturing the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide through commitment to authenticity and humanitarian values.
We ardently refute these allegations that underscore our dedication to maintaining a supportive, ethical environment for all participants. Our authenticity and dedication to promoting cultural interactions, social activism, and personal development go beyond conjecture, grounded in decades of positive impact around the globe.
In light of this controversy, we regret that such a reputable media outlet, known for its journalistic standards and credibility, chose to publish assertions without consulting trustworthy sources or presenting evidence that substantiates the claims being made. It is unfortunate that this approach undermines the public’s trust and the principles of fair and ethical reporting.
As steadfast guardians of our reputation and ethical standing, the Miss Universe Organization reserves the right to pursue legal actions against those who perpetuate falsehoods undermining our esteemed legacy. Our legal team will ensure that corrective measures are judiciously considered to protect the interests of our organization and the principles we steadfastly embody.
Miss Universe remains unwavering in its mission to foster unity, celebrate diversity, and champion women’s empowerment. We take immense pride in our contributions to communities worldwide and remain committed to continuing our important work despite baseless distractions.
We sincerely thank our global family—past, present, and future—for their continued support and dedication to our shared mission. Miss Universe is more than an organization; it is a community united by shared values and a promise of a brighter, inclusive future."
Hulu's documentary aired after Denmark's Victoria Kjaer Theilvig was recently crowned the 73rd Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2024) in Mexico City.
