North Carolina’s Cheslie Kryst was crowned Miss USA 2019 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada on Thursday, May 2.
The 28-year-old succeeded last year’s winner Sarah Rose Summers at the end of the two-hour live telecast on FOX which was hosted by Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey.
Alejandra Gonzalez of New Mexico and Triana Browne of Oklahoma were the first and second runners-up, respectively, while the representatives from Arkansas and Nevada completed the Top 5 finalists.
The new Miss USA will move to New York City where she will live her entire reign and become a spokesperson for various causes alongside Miss Universe Organization. She will also represent the USA at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
Cheslie began her pageantry career in 2017, competing in Miss North Carolina USA 2017, where she placed as the fourth runner-up. She returned the following year and placed in the top ten, before returning again for Miss North Carolina USA 2019 and winning the competition.
Upon winning, Cheslie became the third woman from North Carolina to win the title, following Chelsea Cooley (Miss USA 2015) and Kristen Dalton (Miss USA 2009).
Two former Miss Universe winners were among the panel of judges, Miss Universe 2001 from Puerto Rico, Denise Quiñones, and Miss Universe 2018 from South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
