Beauty and brain, Reita Faria bested over 50 other contestants from around the world to become India’s first Miss World at age 23. She’s also the first Asian woman to win the coveted title.
Born to Goan parents in Mumbai, the then medical student’s life has dramatically changed after winning Miss World 1966 in London.
Despite receiving various offers to act in films after her historic reign, Reita refused the limelight and instead focused on her medical studies.
Reita finished her education at King’s College London, got married, and moved to Dublin, Ireland, where she practiced her medical profession. She raised two children with her husband, endocrinologist David Powell.
Brut India shared a short video on Reita’s inspiring journey to the crown despite having “no professional wardrobe or training.”
