It has been reported that talks are in progress to bring the Miss Universe pageant to Israel. According to the source of Israel Hayom, representatives of the Miss Universe Organization have met with Israeli producers in New York and even secretly visited the country.
“The goal is to host the event as early as this year, but at the same time we are looking into the option of holding the 2020 pageant here,” the source said.
Following the success of this year’s Eurovision in Tel Aviv that had about 200 million viewers and the positive reviews it received abroad, Israel seems to have grown its appetite for more glitz and glamour. If ever, it will be the first time that the country hosts a major international pageant.
But unlike Eurovision, where participants from European countries have normal diplomatic relations with Israel, Miss Universe would be more complicated because the pageant includes Arab contestants who need the approval of special visas and the involvement of security agencies.
In addition, approval of such a huge event would also have to wait until after Israel’s national elections in September when government ministries can be involved in the budgeting and planning process.
Other countries rumored to be hosting the Miss Universe pageant are South Korea, Dubai, and the Philippines. Hopefully, the organization will finally reveal the host for its 68th edition anytime soon.
