In its 20th edition, Miss Earth will be held virtually for the first time in November according to pageant organizer, Carousel Productions.
Despite the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the Miss Earth organization does not want to skip a year but considers the risk of infection should they bring all the girls together.
Lorraine Schuck, the executive vice president of Miss Earth, said that with technology, the virtual competition is doable which was the case of the recently held successful telecast of Miss Philippines Earth.
Miss Earth 2020 pre-pageant activities will be done remotely in a two-month period from the first week of September and the tentative schedule for the coronation is November 8.
The final details of the competition are yet to be officially confirmed.
Nellys Pimentel of Puerto Rico, the reigning Miss Earth, will relinquish her crown at the end of the event.
