Meghna Alam was officially proclaimed Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 in a national competition held on Sunday, October 4 in Dhaka.
The runners-up were Chameli Akter, Sanda Kazi, and Yeasmin Mustary Badhan. They were awarded the elemental court titles of Miss Air Bangladesh, Miss Water Bangladesh, and Miss Fire Bangladesh, respectively.
Despite being an inch shorter than the minimum height requirement, the newly-crowned Miss Earth Bangladesh hopes to make a better world “where beauty will no longer be confined to any physical form but will be reflected from the determination of our hearts.”
“I am participating in Bangladesh because I believe that not only beauty pageants, Miss Earth is a powerful platform that will strengthen our voices as women, reach out to people’s hearts for radical change in society and focus on environmental change, which is my life and struggle is most related,” she said.
The young leader, entrepreneur, activist, and business administration student at North South University will represent Bangladesh at the Miss Earth 2020 virtual competition this November. She is the first-ever representative of her south Asian country at the international pageant.
This year’s competition was the inaugural edition of Miss Earth Bangladesh headed by its national director Naila Noman Bari. The pageant is a joint venture between Triple Nine Global and OSHESH Ltd.
