A 25-year-old beauty from Surrey, British Columbia, Gloren Guelos was proclaimed Miss Earth Canada 2020 in a virtual competition held last September 18. She succeeds last year’s titleholder, Mattea Henderson.
The licensed practical nurse and health assistance instructor who is currently pursuing her degree to become a registered nurse edged out six other finalists to win the national pageant.
Prior to winning her crown, Gloren held the title of Miss British Columbia 2016 and Miss Supranational Canada 2019.
Finding a sustainable way to recycle medical masks is part of her advocacy. She said, “With the spike in the use of disposable PPE’s, we do not have a way to properly recycle.”
“As Miss Earth Canada, I will work with the University of British Columbia Bioproducts Institute to implement their research on making biodegradable masks and educate my community about proper waste management.”
Gloren is now set to represent Canada at the Miss Earth 2020 virtual competition this November and win the second title for her country.
Canada has won its first Miss Earth crown in 2007 with Jessica Trisko.
