Miss San Juan, Valerie Vigoreaux Cortés, beat 11 other finalists to win Miss Earth Puerto Rico 2021 last Sunday, November 22 in the island’s capital.
The 27-year-old pre-veterinary student and model is the daughter of former senator and TV host, Roberto Vigoreaux. She succeeds the appointed Miss Earth Puerto Rico 2020, Krystal Badillo, and will represent Puerto Rico at the Miss Earth 2021 pageant.
“Years ago I dreamed it, I never dared for an endless number of reasons and fears that stopped my desire to call myself Puerto Rico,” she wrote on social media after winning her title.
“Sacrifice, fight, dream, work in silence, and achieve it. Today I wake up as the new [Miss Earth Puerto Rico] and you don’t know how proud I am to say it. Who sees us cry, who knows our soul and feelings is who understands what we say.”
Miss Salinas, Elijah Rodriguez, Miss San Sebastian, Cristina Mariel Ríos Reyes, and Miss Cabo Rojo, Dinochka Santana, were named Miss Air, Water, and Fire, respectively.
This year’s competition was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the contestants were originally registered for the 2020 edition.
The reigning Miss Earth and Puerto Rico’s first winner, Nellys Pimentel attended the glittering event. She is due to relinquish her reign in the virtual Miss Earth 2020 finale on Sunday, November 29.
