A 23-year old beauty from Quevedo, Leyla Espinoza Calvache, bested 19 other contestants to be crowned Miss Ecuador Universo 2020 in a competition held on Saturday, October 17 at the Wyndham Manta Sail Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Manta, Manabí Province.
The professional model and international business student at Universidad de las Américas succeeded last year’s winner Cristina Hidalgo.
Saskya Sacasa, María Luisa Corrales, and Mireya Pérez were the first, second, and third runners-up, respectively, while Daniela Mera, Daniela Rodríguez, and Keidy Boza completed the Top 7 finalists. They are expected to be sent to various international competitions.
The rest of the Top 11 semi-finalists were Doménica Maquilón, Nicole Loor, Valentina Mendoza, and Dayar Olmedo.
This year’s pageant which was aired on Gamavisión and hosted by Carlos Luis Andrade and former Miss Ecuador, Claudia Schiess, was the 70th edition of the national competition. Dayanara, Diana Sofía, and Roberto Rubén were among the guest performers.
The new Miss Ecuador will represent her country at the 69th Miss Universe pageant, whose date and venue are yet to be announced.
Ecuador is yet to win its first Miss Universe crown. The country’s highest placement was the second runner-up finish of Constanza Báez in 2013.
