22-year-old athlete and professional model, Cristina Hidalgo, was crowned Miss Ecuador Universe 2019 on Friday, July 19 at the Teatro Centro de Arte León Febres Cordero in Guayaquil. The runners-up were Sonia Luna, Sofía Freile, Eliza Quiñónez, and María José Rivera.
Cristina, who hails from Guayaquil, bested 20 other beauties to succeed last year’s winner, Virginia Limongi, at the end of the event. She will now prepare to represent her country at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
The 66th edition of the national pageant was broadcast live on Gamavisión. It was hosted by CNN anchor and correspondent, Gillermo Arduino, and former Miss Ecuador, Claudia Schiess.
Miss Ecuador International 2019 was also crowned during the event. 25-year-old Alegría Tobar of Quito will represent the country at the Miss International 2019 pageant in Tokyo, Japan in November. She received the crown from the reigning Miss International, Mariem Velazco of Venezuela.
Ecuador is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. The country’s highest placement in the pageant was 2nd runner-up in 2013 with Constanza Báez.
Fernanda Cornejo, who won in 2011, is up to now the only Miss International winner from Ecuador.
