24-year-old Coco Arayha Suparurk (Miss Grand Nakhon Phanom) was crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2019 in a glittering competition held at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre on Saturday, July 13. She succeeded last year’s winner, Namoey Chanaphan and will now prepare to represent Thailand at the Miss Grand International 2019 pageant in Venezuela next October.
The runners-up were Peerachada Khunrak (Miss Grand Nan), Jane Naruemon (Miss Grand Chang Mai), Maneerat Dangprasert (Miss Grand Trat) and Chompoonut Phungphon (Miss Grand Phangnga). Two of them are expected to compete in Miss Intercontinental and Miss United Continents this year.
Coco has recently sparked an outrage online because of her Instagram post that shows comparison between Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa. The controversial photo which has now been deleted, describes Clara as fit and Catriona as fat.
Miss Grand Thailand pageant was born in 2013 under the leadership of Nawat Itsaragrisil. As stated on its official website, the national contest aims to search for an exceptional woman with beauty, flair, intelligence and who can be a good role model in society.
