Gabriela Castillo (22) was crowned as Miss Guatemala Earth 2020 in a special ceremony held on Sunday, September 13. She succeeds last year’s titleholder, María Regina Barco Sandoval.
The coronation event hosted by Virginia Argueta and Williany Calatayud was streamed live via social media. Guatemalan singer and La Academia winner, Paola Chuc, was the special guest performer.
Miss Guatemala Organization’s Carlos Vargas and Javier Miranda led the coronation of the Guatemalan representative for the Miss Earth 2020 virtual competition this November.
“We want to thank the Miss Earth organization for giving us this amazing opportunity. This is something really important that we have been waiting for,” says Javier.
“We assure you that we are going to try to make it work and we are very excited to show you that Guatemalan beauty has many different things to offer, not only its women but also the earth of the Mayan culture.”
A new crown made by renowned Mexican jewelry designer, Ricardo Patraca, was also unveiled in the event.
The new Miss Guatemala Earth has previously held the titles of Miss Guatemala USA and Miss Guatemala International. She represented her country at the Miss International 2018 pageant in Tokyo, Japan.
Guatemala is yet to win the Miss Earth crown. The country’s highest placement was Top 10 in 2003 with Marie Claire Palacios.
