Eden Berandoive was officially named Miss Haiti 2020 in a special crowning ceremony that was streamed online on Sunday, December 6.
The 24-year-old communications graduate from Aquin succeeds Gabriela Clesca Vallejo. She was a runner-up during last year’s national competition and placed Top 8 at Miss Panamerican International 2019 pageant held in Mexico.
Miss Haiti organizers revealed in a press release that this year’s pageant has been canceled due to the current health crisis situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. A new titleholder was instead appointed with the approval of the Miss Universe Organization.
The new Miss Haiti will represent her Caribbean country at the 69th Miss Universe pageant whose date and venue are yet to be announced.
Haiti is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. The country came so close to winning in 1975 and 2016 with its first runner-up placements courtesy of Gerthie David and Raquel Pélissier.
