26-year-old beauty with Filipino and English heritage, Monique Charlotte Shippen, was crowned Miss International Australia 2019 last Saturday, August 3 at The Dome Cessnock, New South Wales. She beat 27 other contestants to win the national beauty title and the right to represent Australia at the Miss International 2019 pageant in Tokyo, Japan in November.
Other winners crowned in the competition were Anjelica Whitelaw, Caitlyn Petch, Ria Ruman, Christina Manyang and Sara Copeland. They received the titles Miss Asia Pacific International Australia, Miss Globe Australia, Miss Global Beauty Queen Australia, Miss Progress Australia and Miss Model of the World Australia 2019, respectively, and will represent the country in various international competitions.
The new Miss Internationa Australia is a former Miss Earth Australia who competed in Miss Earth 2018 in the Philippines. She is a pre-school teacher, singer, songwriter, and model.
Australia boasts three Miss International winners with Tania Verstak (1962), Jenny Annette Derek (1981), and Kirsten Davidson (1991).
