Miss Namibia cancels national competitions for 2020

Miss Namibia cancels national competitions for 2020According to a report from The Namibian, Conny Maritz, the managing director of Miss Namibia pageant, has announced that this year’s Miss Namibia and Miss Teen Namibia competitions are canceled due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

While other national pageants have either pushed through or simply moved the dates of their competitions, Miss Namibia officials have carefully considered the effect of the pandemic on the pageantry as a whole.

As the pandemic resulted in international travel bans, community lockdowns, and economic depression across the world, it is also not permissible to organize a coronation event.

“It is simply irresponsible and unfair to burden loyal sponsors with requests for support in these dreadful times.”

Last year’s winner, Nadja Breytenbach, who represented Nambia at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant, will continue with her duties until it becomes possible to hold the national competition where she can relinquish her reign to her successor.
