24-year-old model from Rotterdam, Sharon Pieksma was crowned Miss Netherlands 2019 at the Koonings (the wedding palace) in Deurne. The 1.78 m tall beauty triumphed over 9 other finalists to win the coveted title during a broadcast of the program Op Jacht Naar De Kroon (on the hunt for the crown) on RTL 4 last Sunday, June 30.
The runner-up is Fabiënne Davelaar while Leontine Brns and Daphne Albers received the Miss Social Media and Miss Congeniality awards, respectively.
Last year’s winner, Miss Netherlands 2018, Rahima Dirkse handed over the crown and sash to her successor at the end of the glamorous event.
Sharon works as a freelance model and DJ. In 2013, she participated in the 6th cycle of Holland’s Next Top Model at the age of 18.
The new Miss Netherlands hopes to be able to work for people, nature and animals.
“As a Miss Netherlands, I want to make the world a little better with the goal: less plastic. We need to protect our planet and I want to share this with the world by using this platform.”
She will now prepare to represent her country at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant later this year.
Netherlands won the Miss Universe pageant in 1989 with Angela Visser. The country’s last placement was in 2014, with Yasmin Verheijen who finished as 3rd runner-up.
