22-year-old student, Yasmín Evangelista Pérez, representing Distrito Nacional, was crowned Miss República Dominicana Earth 2019 in a national competition held on Saturday, August 24 at the Narciso González Cultural Center’s Monina Solá Theater in Santo Domingo.
Yasmín bested 27 other candidates to win the coveted beauty title. She will represent the Dominican Republic at the Miss Earth 2019 pageant in October in the Philippines.
Miss República Dominicana Earth is organized by Escuela de Modelos Juan Rojas. Its objective is to raise awareness among the youth and the Dominican society about the importance of caring for the planet. The winner becomes a spokeswoman that promotes the protection of natural resources, not only in the country but in the world.
The Dominican Republic is yet to win the Miss Earth crown. In 2005, the country received its highest achievement in the competition so far when Amell Santana placed as a runner-up (Miss Earth Air).
