Viivi Altonen, 23, was crowned Miss Suomi 2020 (Miss Finland 2020) in a national competition held at AlfaTV’s studio on Saturday, September 19. She succeeds last year’s winner, Anni Harjunpää during the live telecast.
The university student and model from Tampere edged out nine other finalists to win the national beauty title. She will represent Finland at the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant next year.
Anna Merimaa, 23, from Turku was crowned Miss International Finland 2020. She will compete in the Miss International 2021 pageant next year in Yokohama, Japan.
Laura Hautaniemi was proclaimed the first runner-up while Noona Pölkki was second runner-up. One of them might be sent to Miss World.
This year’s competition was originally scheduled for spring but had to be moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The finalists have been preparing for nine months for the final event.
Finland held two Miss Universe titles in 1952 with Armi Kuusela and Anne Marie Pohtamo in 1975, one Miss World in 1957 with Marita Lindahl, and one Miss International in 1973 with Anneli Björkling.
