Ki’ilani Arruda of Hawaii was crowned Miss Teen USA 2020 in a competition held on Saturday, November 7 at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.
The 18-year-old Filipino-American beauty from Kapaʻa edged out 50 other teenagers from across America to win the coveted title. She is currently a freshman at the University of Puget Sound, studying molecular and cellular biology, and minoring in Spanish.
Miss Oregon, Shayla Montgomery, was named first runner-up while Miss Georgia, Shayla Jackson, became the second runner-up. Miss Nebraska, Audrey Eckert, and Miss Lousiana, Sydney Taylor, were the third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
Ki’ilani becomes the second Hawaii representative in history to win Miss Teen USA. The last person from the island state to capture the title was actress Kelly Hu, in 1985.
The 38th Miss Teen USA pageant was hosted by Miss Teen USA 2005 Allie LaForce and Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst while two former titleholders, Miss Teen USA 2011 Danielle Doty and Miss Teen USA 2014 Katherine Lee Graham were part of the selection committee.
Last year’s winner, Kaliegh Garris of Connecticut crowned her successor at the end of the glittering event.
