Chelsea Tayui was crowned Miss Universe Ghana 2020 in a special ceremony held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Saturday, September 26. She succeeds outgoing queen Akpene Diata Hoggar.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MALZ Promotions, the organizers of Miss Universe Ghana headed by former titleholder Menaye Donkor had to appoint the 25-year-old communications executive from Keta.
The new Miss Universe Ghana will represent her western African country at the 69th Miss Universe competition, whose date and venue are yet to be announced.
“I am committed to working tirelessly to bring a spirit of compassion and service to the people of Ghana and to represent my beautiful country at the international level with all the glory that it deserves,” she said.
Ghana first joined Miss Universe in 1991 and achieved its highest placement at the international pageant in 1999 with a Top 10 finish of Akuba Cudjoe.
