Birta Abiba Þórhallsdóttir was crowned Miss Universe Iceland 2019 at the Hljómahöll’s Stapi Center in Reykjanesbær on Saturday, August 31.
The 19-year-old beat 20 other beauties to win the national beauty title and succeed last year’s winner Katrín Lea Elenudóttir. She will now prepare to represent her Nordic island nation at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
“Everyone is beautiful no matter how they look on the outside. It doesn’t matter what color you have, it’s just who the inner person is,” the newly-crowned Miss Universe Iceland said in an interview.
Other winners crowned in the competition were Miss Supranational Iceland 2019 Hugrún Birta Egilsdóttir and Queen Beauty Iceland 2020 Hulda Vigdísardóttir.
Elísabet Hulda Snorradóttir and Kolfinna Mist Austfjord were the first and second runners-up, respectively.
Iceland is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. The country’s highest placement in the pageant was first runner-up in 1962 with Anna Geirsdóttir.
