Miss Universe Iceland organization has announced its decision to move this year’s competition with the safety and well-being of the contestants in mind amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Factors impacting our decision included the closing of our host hotel last week and receiving newly issued government/health guidelines that significantly limit gathering sizes inside internal spaces,” says the official announcement.
Miss Universe Iceland 2020 final competition was originally scheduled for August 21 at Hljómahöll. Those who have already purchased their tickets can use them instead on October 23.
The organizers also announced that the People’s Choice Contest has been extended. Click here to vote for your favorite contestants.
This year’s winners are expected to represent Iceland in the next Miss Universe, Miss Supranational, and Queen Beauty Universe competitions.
The reigning titleholder, Birta Abiba Þórhallsdóttir, placed in the Top 10 at Miss Universe 2019. It was the highest achievement Iceland received in the pageant since Anna Geirsdóttir placed first runner-up in 1962.
