Miss Universe Ulster, Nadia Sayers, was officially announced as Miss Universe Ireland 2020 in a virtual competition that was streamed live via social media on Monday, December 21.
The 26-year-old model, mental health advocate, and aspiring psychotherapist who holds a degree in psychology was part of the Top 10 during last year’s national pageant. She bested 11 other beauties to win her title.
Miss Universe Leinster, Laura Nolan, and Miss Universe Derry, Chloe Davies, completed the Top 3 finalists while Miss Universe Cork, Leila Ecker, Miss Universe Down, Katharine Walker, Miss Universe Galway, Evelyn Harrington, and Miss Universe Midleton, Aishat Onilogbo, where the rest of the Top 7.
No stranger to pageantry, the new Miss Universe Ireland was a runner-up during the Miss Earth Northern Ireland 2017 pageant and held the title of Miss Intercontinental Ireland.
Nadia succeeds last year’s winner from Dublin, Fionnghuala O’Reilly, and will now have the opportunity to represent her country at the 69th Miss Universe pageant, whose date and venue are yet to be announced.
She said: “What makes me feel most confident in my skin/body. Being active, looking after my health, and respecting my body builds my confidence each day. I walk, I do strength training, I stretch, I practice self-care, all of these things help me to appreciate what my body is capable of, and help me get to know it better.”
