Francisca Luhong edged out 17 other finalists to be crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 on Saturday, September 5.
The 25-year-old Orang Ulu beauty from Sarawak is a part-time model and a public relations and marketing executive in Kuala Lumpur.
Charissa Chong, Serena Chai, and Neha Verma were proclaimed the first, second, and third runners-up, respectively.
Francisca succeeds last year’s winner Shweta Sekhon during the live streaming of the e-Gala competition on the revamped Miss Universe Malaysia official website.
“Women empowerment is relevant and real, positivity can be achieved when one person shows growth and positivity, the rest follows and wants the best for their community,” she wrote on social media as one of her reasons to smile shortly before the final competition.
“We grow to be the best version of ourselves despite the challenges and it is all to prove how much we want the best for Malaysia,” she added.
The new Miss Universe Malaysia has won cash and sponsored prizes with a combined value of RM180,000, and a full education scholarship from HELP University. She will also have the opportunity to represent her country at the 69th Miss Universe competition next year.
