27-year-old Tongan stylist and student from Auckland, Diamond Langi, was crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2019 on Saturday, August 17 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre in Auckland Girls’ Grammar School. The runners-up were Hannah McCabe, Jayda Ormsby-Northcott and Lydia Smit.
Diamond was voted by the public and a panel of judges over 11 other finalists to win the national beauty title. She succeeded last year’s winner Estelle Curd and will now prepare to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
The new Miss Universe New Zealand isn’t new to the pageant world. She represented Tonga in the Philippines during the Miss Earth 2017 pageant where she placed in the Top 16.
New Zealand won a Miss Universe crown in 1983 with Lorraine Downes. She is up to now the only Miss Universe winner from the country.
