The Miss Universe Philippines organization has confirmed on its official Facebook page that this year’s final competition will be held in October.
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 was originally scheduled to take place on May 3 but was moved as the Philippine government has imposed quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Former Miss Universe Philippines and Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up, now national director, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, has assured the public that they are making adjustments to the competition so they remain sensitive to the current public health crisis.
Over 50 contestants are vying for the national beauty title and the right to represent the Philippines in the next Miss Universe pageant.
This is the first time that a separate pageant is being held for Miss Universe Philippines since Binibining Pilipinas lost the Miss Universe national franchise.
The reigning Miss Universe Philippines, Gazini Ganados, finished Top 20 in the Miss Universe 2019 pageant held in Atlanta, Georgia last December. Gazini was crowned in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
