Estefanía Soto Torres has been officially designated as Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2020 on Thursday, September 24.
The 27-year-old beauty is trilingual and holds a master’s degree in intercultural mediation from the University of Louvain in Belgium. She has worked for a European organization in Brussels and the French embassy in Washington, D.C.
Estefanía represented San Sebastián and placed first runner-up during last year’s national pageant. She will now prepare to represent her country at the 69th Miss Universe pageant to be held next year.
The designation of the new Miss Universe Puerto came after the announcement of the national organization, led by former Miss Universe Denise Quiñones that there is no pageant taking place this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year’s winner and Miss Universe first runner-up, Madison Anderson Berrios, crowned her successor in a special program “Te Ofrezco mi Corazón” that was streamed via Wapa Televisión and Miss Universe Puerto Rico official social media platforms.
Estefanía is the second Puerto Rican to be designated as Miss Universe Puerto Rico. The first was Laurie Tamara Simpson in 1987, who eventually placed fourth runner-up at Miss Universe that year in Singapore.
Puerto Rico currently holds five Miss Universe winners, the third-highest number of wins after the USA and Venezuela.
