Vanessa Castro edged out nine other contestants to win Miss Universo Paraguay 2020 on Thursday, December 3 at the Veranda complex of the Resort Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo.
The 27-year-old architect from Asunción succeeds last year’s winner, Ketlin Lottermann. She will represent Paraguay at the 69th Miss Universe pageant to be held in the first quarter of 2021 possibly in the USA.
Gabriela Benítez was named Virreina while Araceli Domínguez and Cristina Benitez were the first and second princesses, respectively.
The results of the competition caused public outrage against the organizers as the winner only showed up three days prior to the gala and won over the heavy favorites who carried out the entire process of pre-selection.
Amid the controversy that left the pageant fans stunned, former Miss Supranational Stephania Stegman revealed she was appointed as Miss Universo Paraguay 2020 for three months until the organizers asked her to resign for failure to come up with a payment for the franchise.
Miss Universo Paraguay, is organized by Reinas de Belleza del Paraguay under the Bolivia based modeling agency, Promociones Gloria. The organization which has yet to issue a statement on the issue also holds the franchise for Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
