Miss World 2018 is Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce

Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce CrowningVanessa Ponce (26) from Mexico was crowned Miss World 2018 during the 68th edition of the pageant which was held at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya, China on December 8.

The representatives from Thailand, Belarus, Jamaica, and Uganda completed the Top 5 finalists.

Vanessa became the first-ever representative from Mexico to win the coveted Miss World title. She’s also the oldest winner in the history of the pageant surpassing the previous record of Miss World 1989, Aneta Kręglicka who was 24 at the time of her win.

The new Miss World is a model, holds a degree in International Business, and is on the board of directors of a rehab center for girls and women. She also works in a school called Nenemi that is dedicated to giving intercultural education to indigenous people.

During the pageant, Vanessa promoted her project called “Na Vili”, whose objective is to help the children of the indigenous day laborers who emigrate from the Mexican state of Guerrero to Guanajuato.

Former Miss Worlds Megan Young of the Philippines (Miss World 2013) and Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico (Miss World 2016) hosted the glittering show together with Fernando Allende, Angela Chow, Frankie Cena, and Barney Walsh.

Donel Mangena, Dimash Kudaibergen, and Sister Sledge were the guest performers.
