Reigning Miss World, Toni-Ann Singh is in South Africa as a special guest of Chief Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s eldest grandson, to celebrate his mother’s 70th birthday in Mvezo and donate 1,300 pairs of shoes as part of ‘Beauty With A Purpose continued support of local schools and children.
Toni-Ann arrived in Mthatha, Eastern Cape and before the birthday celebrations was given a personal tour of the Nelson Mandela museum by Chief Mandela who explained the history of his grandfather, Madiba.
During the visit, Chief Mandela said: “It was a great opportunity today to be with the current Miss World who was crowned in London visit us here in Mthatha and come to the Nelson Mandela museum to learn about the rich heritage of Madiba and his legacy. I am grateful that I have been able to personally guide her through the exhibition and share with her the various chapters in his life.
“From his legacy, I hope she will be better informed about who Madiba was and the challenges he had to deal with throughout his life. From his incarnation through to his leadership during his presidency and that she can draw strength from this during her reign to make the world a better place to live in.”
Toni-Ann commented: “Legacy is the word of the day. Today I took a tour of the Nelson Mandela Museum, guided by Chief Mandla. What an honour and a privilege it was to learn more about the mark Nelson Mandela has left on our world. He fought for freedom, love, and unity. The spirit of Madiba lives on, not only in his grandson but in all of us.”
Following the museum tour, Miss World was a guest at the 70th birthday celebration of Rose Rayne Mandela-Perry, Chief Mandela’s mother that took place in Mvezo, the birthplace of Nelson Mandela. During the celebration, Toni-Ann performed a very ‘emotional’ Happy Birthday.
