Joylyn Anita Conway was crowned Miss World Guyana 2019 following a selection process by a panel of nine judges in a small but elegant event held at the Pegasus International Hotel in Georgetown last Sunday, June 23.
The 20-year-old succeeds Miss World Guyana 2018, Ambika Ramraj and she will represent Guyana at the Miss World 2019 pageant in December in London.
Joylyn is a proud Berbician and a natural science enthusiast with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a minor in biology from the University of Guyana. Presently, she is a lecturer and lab instructor attached to the University of Guyana and the New Amsterdam Technical Institute. She enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and putting smiles on frowned faces.
Miss World Guyana 2019 has been postponed to 2020. According to Majesty International, a franchise holder of Miss World in the country, the decision was made to shift the timeline of the pageant to ensure that candidates have a better chance of competing on the national and international stage.
Guyana is yet to win the Miss World crown. Its highest placement was second runner-up with Shakira Caine in 1967.
