Jack Heslewood of England edged out 71 other contestants to win the Mr World 2019 title on Friday, August 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines.
The 27-year-old qualified rocket scientist completed his degree in Aerospace Engineering at the age of 21. He wants to invent new technologies to enable a better world and his personal motto is “You get one life, so do it all.”
On his final question “What do you think is the most important message the world needs to hear right now?” he replied, “I think the most important message is to try to imagine the best possible superhero you can think of, even if you can’t even think that it’s possible for humans to achieve that, imagine that superhero, that actually happens to be you and you can do that if you empower yourself to do that. It is actually possible to be that superhero if you imagine.”
South Africa’s Fezile Mkhize and Mexico’s Brian Faugier were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Brazil’s Carlos Franco and Dominican Republic’s Alejandro Martínez completed the Top 5 finalists.
The Top 12 semi-finalists were Austria (Alberto Nodale), Ireland (Wayne Walsh), Lebanon (Jean-Paul Bitar), Nepal (Akshay Rayamajhi), Northern Ireland (Adam Steenson), Philippines (JB Saliba) and Tonga (Mikaele Henry Ahomana).
South Africa, Ireland, Tonga, Nepal, and Mexico fast-tracked to the Top 12 after winning the Sports, Extreme, Top Talent, Multimedia, and Top Model Challenge, respectively. The other 7 countries were the judges’ choices from each continent.
The contestants with the highest scores from each continent were proclaimed as the continental winners. South Africa was Mr World Africa, Austria was Mr World Europe, the Philippines was Mr World Asia Pacific, the Dominican Republic was Mr World Carribean, and Mexico was Mr World Americas.
It was the first time that the Philippines hosted the Mr World pageant. The event, now in its 10th edition, was hosted by the first Filipina Miss World, Megan Young, and Filipino celebrity, Mikael Daez.
The reigning Miss World Vanessa Ponce de Leon and former Miss World titleholders, Stephanie Del Valle and Ksenia Sukhinova were part of the judging panel.
Mr World 2016, India’s Rohit Khandelwal passed on his reign to the new winner who will now embark on an amazing journey of a lifetime.
