The spectacular Miss Universe 2024 preliminary competition and national costume show was held last night at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Hosted by reigning Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios and Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel, the important event kicked off with the contestants parading in their colorful and stunning national costumes. After the national costume segment, each contestant walked on stage in their swimsuits and capes, and then by group during the evening gown. An esteemed panel of selection committee carefully assessed each of their performances. Scores from last night's event including their closed-door interviews, will help determine the semifinalists. The Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant culminated on Wednesday, May 22 at a top-of-mind venue for entertainment and sports events in the Philippines, the Mall of Asia Arena (MOA). Bulacan's Chelsea Manalo took home the coveted crown from a field of 53 contestants following the highly competitive rounds of swimsuit, evening gown, and interviews. Her victory marked a historic milestone in Philippine pageantry as she became the first-ever Filipina-African American woman to hold the Miss Universe Philippines title. The 72nd Miss Universe competition culminated in the magical El Salvador in the weekend and we still can't get over how spectacular the show was. From the stage, production, contestants, guest performers, and distinguished judges, to the energy of the crowded Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda, everything was flawless. The host country delivered its promise — it was undoubtedly one of the best editions of the annual Miss Universe pageant in recent years. More than 80 contestants from around the world dazzled in their Clarisse Designs opening dresses, swimsuits by Rubin Singer, footwear by Jojo Bragais, and their choice of evening gowns. Hosted by reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel and former Miss Universe El Salvador Vanessa Velásquez, last night's spectacular show is considered the most inclusive in the 72-year history of Miss Universe. There were two mothers (Colombia and Guatemala), two transgender women (Netherlands and Portugal), and one plus-sized (Nepal).
