Miss International Australia 2023 is Jazel Alarca

Jazel Mae Alarca was officially crowned Miss International Australia 2023 in a ceremony held last July 29 at the Proxima Hub in Sydney, Australia. The 24-year-old clinical science graduate of Filipino descent succeeds last year's titleholder Anjelica Whitelaw and will now represent Australia at Miss International 2023 in Japan this October. "I am beyond grateful. This crown, this sash, and this title hold a world of meaning," shared the new Miss International Australia following her coronation. "This journey hasn’t been an easy one and best believe it will only get harder, but to me, it will always be worth it," she added. "Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the journey so far, you’ve all made your own little impact." Mikaela-Rose Fowler was crowned Miss Grand Australia 2023 in a national competition held on Saturday, July 15 at the RACV City Club in Melbourne. The 28-year-old disability support worker and an ADHD advocate from Victoria will now prepare to represent Australia at Miss Grand International 2023 in Vietnam this October. Paitin Louise Powell was named first runner-up while Brooke Murray, Selina McCloskey, and Alecia McCallum were the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. Last year's titleholder and now national director Amber Sidney crowned her successor at the end of the event. The last group of finalists vying for Miss Universe Australia 2023 were announced during the Miss West Coast state final held on Wednesday, May 24 at The Camfield in Perth. Representing Western Australia in September's national final are Vimbayi Hakutangwi, Somaya O'Donnell, Natasha Huisman, Brooklyn Metropolis, Mary Lopez, and Khloe Hicks. Following South Australia and Queensland, two more states selected their respective representatives for the Miss Universe Australia 2023 national final. The state final for New South Wales was held on Friday, May 19 at Café del Mar in Sydney. Four finalists have been announced from the premiere state — Vitoria Camporeale, Tash Knox, Sené Maluwapi, and Farida Rakhmanova. On Sunday, May 21, the Victoria state final was held at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins where a total of seven winners emerged. The national finalists from the garden state are Claire Rossier, Brooke Bailey, Alexandra Danielle Lim, Moraya Wilson, Maddison Cottle, Johara Pillay, and Lauren Walker. Anjelica Whitelaw has been officially announced by Karen Jane Productions as Miss International Australia 2022 on Tuesday, October 11. The 26-year-old Sydney-born Filipino-Australian lawyer will represent Australia at the 60th Miss International pageant in Tokyo, Japan this December. A graduate of a bachelor's degree in communication and recently a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Technology Sydney, Anjelica currently works as a lawyer at a commercial law firm in Sydney. In her spare time, the proud bilingual whose Filipino mother hails from Pampanga, Philippines, enjoys traveling and exploring new cuisines with her family and friends. Australia first joined Miss International in 1960 during the pageant's inaugural edition. The country has won the title three times with Tania Verstak in 1962, Jenny Derek in 1981, and Kirsten Davidson in 1992. Monique Riley of New South Wales has been crowned as Miss Universe Australia 2022 on Friday, September 9 at Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The 27-year-old model, actress, and executive assistant with a degree in creative industries from the Queensland University of Technology will now prepare to represent Australia at the 71st Miss Universe pageant. She succeeds last year's titleholder, Daria Varlamova. Completing the Top 5 were first runner-up Annalise Dalinis, second runner-up Ciara Grehan, third runner-up Hànni Rose Howe and fourth runner-up Alana Deutsher-Moore.
