Asian-American Bailey Anne Kennedy was crowned Miss Maryland USA 2024 on Saturday, June 1 at Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. The 31-year-old military wife, an NCAA D1 Dance Team Captain, and a former NFL Cheerleader Trainee from Montgomery County bested over 90 other contestants to win the state title. She became the oldest and the first transgender and married woman to be crowned Miss Maryland USA since the Miss Universe Organization recently changed its rules regarding age limits and marital status. Bailey advocates for "Beauty Without an Expiration Date" to encourage everyone to embrace opportunities regardless of age restrictions and believe in one's own self-worth despite any perceived limitations in life. The new Miss Maryland USA succeeds Savena Mushinge, last year's winner and Miss USA 2023 Top 20 semifinalist. Miss Germantown, Savena Mushinge, was crowned Miss Maryland USA 2023 on Sunday, April 2 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Rockville. Rounding out the Top 5 finalists were Kennedy Taylor, Lydia Frentsos, Danielle Shook, and Taylor Wright. They were named the first, second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. The new Miss Maryland USA is a 26-year-old Zambian-American model and a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in anthropology. She is currently working as a transaction manager at the JLL DC office in Washington, D.C. No stranger to pageantry, Savena was named last year's Miss Supranational Zambia and went on to represent Zambia at Miss Supranational 2022 pageant in Poland. She will now proceed to Miss USA 2023 in Reno, Nevada. For Miss Teen USA 2023, Maryland will be represented by newly crowned Miss Maryland Teen USA 2023 Madelyn Posey.
